2007-08 Season
There is definite talent on the Nuggets roster, and they have been division winners. Carmelo Anthony is arguably one of the league’s top players, and Andre Miller and Earl Boykins are a perfect one-two punch at point guard. These elements make Denver almost a lock to win a shaky Nwest division – if Kenyon sorts out his coaching issues, if the score numbers hold up, and if they stay healthy. They do have to face the Spurs though, which has the potential to be an interesting match up. If Denver does some problem solving, ticket buyers can expect Denver not to stray too far from the top.

The franchise humble beginning started when this ABA team joined the NBA in 1976 under the name the Rockets. Unfortunately, there was already the Houston Rockets in the NBA, which caused a lot of confusion. So in 1974 a contest was held to find a new name for the Denver team. With a rich history of gold mining in the Rocky Mountains, the name, the Denver Nuggets, seemed to fit perfectly and a figure of a miner discovering a basketball became the mascot. Throughout the history of the Denver Nuggets, its roster has included great basketball players such as Byron Beck, Larry Jones, Ralph Simpson, Dan Issel, Bobby Jones, and David Thompson. Some great head coaches have led the team including Larry Brown and Doug Moe. Moe had a unique style of coaching that revolutionized the game of professional basketball. He preached that a high-paced full frontal offensive attack on the other team was the way to win a game. He virtually ignored the defense focusing solely on offense. His “run and gun” philosophy was based on statistics, if you shoot at the basket enough times, the ball is bound to go in a good percentage of the time resulting in higher scores.
